We’re been at this for a while and the book shelves are groaning under the weight.  A few items are provided here that we think a private boater would want to get familiar with.  If you are interested in past GCPBA comments on a multitude of topics, please contact us and we’ll dig thru our kitchen box and get back to you.

Thank you.

CRMP    The Colorado River Management Plan was finalized in 2006.  The plan sets forth the level of usage of both private parties and commercial outfitters while still preserving the resource.  The Record of Decision describes how these levels were arrived at and applied to the different times of the year.  The legality of the CRMP was challenged in US District Court.  The Court’s decision ruled against plaintiffs.

LTEMP & GCMRC   The Long Term Experimental Management Program record of decision was finalized in 2016.   It analyzed the impact of releases from Glen Canyon Dam on the many conditions downstream.   The USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center provides info on topics such as the riparian habitat, humpback chub, high flow experiments, etc.  See GCPBA’s critique of the 2016 HFe

BMP    The Back Country Management Plan impacts private boaters by way of potential camp conflicts at Hermit, Granite,  Tapeats, Ross Wheeler, Lower Bass to name a few.  See GCPBA’s comments on the BMP

Board Member Publications:   Blakely LaCroix conducted research on the efficacy of various forms of ice in your cooler.  To drain or not? Block vs. crushed?  Find the answers in his report (article 1, article 2, article 3).  His report was published in the Boatman’s Quarterly Review.

John Vrymoed determined the historic high water line’s location.  The NPS allows you to stay “below the high water line” on the left side adjacent to the Hualapai boundary without telling you where that is.  Here is John’s report.
