Never Boat Alone, A Guide to Solo Boating the Colorado River through Grand Canyon

by Bruce Cline

GCPBA members receive a 25% discount. At checkout, use the discount code: Lava

This book is primarily for boaters interested in soloing the Grand Canyon, but its principles apply to all solo whitewater boating. Only a small fraction of Grand Canyon boaters ever contemplate or actually attempt a solo trip and, unfortunately, there is no river guide specifically about this endeavor. The Colorado River through Grand Canyon sports world class water, incredible scenery, wonderful (or frightening) isolation, and unique challenges for the solo boater. This guide will be designed to assist boaters in preparing for this incredible undertaking.Topics covered include

Self-Rescue

Rescue Gear and Knowledge

Redundancy of gear and supplies

Solo Boating Tactics

General Preparedness

Camping, Cooking, and Packing

Each of these topics, and others, address issues specific to soloing. True to form, the text will include some amount of irreverent humor. Again, a river guide such as this does not currently exist, and based on conversations I’ve had with many boaters it will fill an important need.
