Sunk Without a Sound: The Tragic Honeymoon Story of Glen & Bessie Hyde, by Brad Dimock. Hard cover, 304 pages, 160 photographs. National Outdoor Book Award winner.

Specially priced at $10.00!

This adventure / mystery / biography details the true story of Glen and Bessie Hyde, who vanished on their 1928 honeymoon river trip through Grand Canyon. Halfway through Grand Canyon they talked to the press, resupplied, returned to their scow, and then disappeared into the gloomy November depths of the gorge. When they did not appear at journey’s end, Glen’s father launched an exhaustive search of Grand Canyon. Although the boat was soon found upright and fully loaded near the end of Grand Canyon, no trace of the honeymooners was ever found. They had vanished from the face of the earth. Or had they?

Author and boatman Brad Dimock tackled this story with an obsession, tracking each clue, lead, and rumor, even going to the extreme of building a replica of the Hydes’ archaic sweep scow for a harrowing journey through Grand Canyon with his own bride. The resulting book, a masterful interweaving of past and present, of pathos and humor, is a classic in outdoor adventure, mystery writing, literary nonfiction, and investigative journalism. With many illustrated pages, this beautiful book is not only a joy to look at, but a true page turner.
